Episode two begins with Ayumu, having erased the memories of his class after the...reveal at the end of episode 1. At school Ayumu unpacks his lunch, shown to have been made by Haruna. It's full of fried eggs that seem to just glow. Only fried eggs. In two massive boxes. And the thermos. Yes, fired eggs in the thermos.
They turn out to be insanely delicious, too, which prompt his class to seize them in exchange for portions of their lunches. So he does get a meal out of it that isn't exclusively amazingly delicious fried eggs (that literally cause people to shake with pleasure from their taste). Ayumu returns home and during dinner the household members "meet" a new cast member, Seraphim, or Sera, the Vampire Ninja! Sera's mission is to convince Yuu to assist her clan, which Yuu refuses to do. Sera won't take no for an answer and requests to be Yuu's servant to have an excuse to remain nearby to try and convince her. yuu refuses on the grounds of already having Ayumu as a servant, and asks Ayumu to drive Sera away. FIGHT SCENE!
Ayumu uses some interesting tactics to win the fight, if only barely. I won't reveal them here because, well, they're cool if they're a surprise. After this Sera acknowledges her defeat and decides to become Ayumu's servant instead, but still feels the need to identify him and call him a "piece of shit" to his face every chance she has.
This brings us to the second half of this episode which shows yuu and Ayumu meeting for the first time. Ayumu tries a few things to begin a conversation with the silent, lonely girl sitting on the curb to no avail.
Eventually he's able to get a rise out of her by...well, find out for yourself, it's really funny. Returning home from meeting her, Ayumu hears a woman screaming from her home. He rushes in to help her, all along telling himself that he's stupid for doing so, and is murdered right there, pierced through his chest with a katana by a concealed person. It shows Yuu making the deal to revive Ayumu as well and shows a bit of more of Ayumu's motivation for revenge. once again around the table Haruna, jokingly tells Ayumu to die. Yuu instantly tells her off and as Ayumu tells Yuu it's just a joke, Haruna says it again. Yuu proceeds to slap her telling her that 'Death is painful".Haruna runs out of the room after giving Yuu another thermos of eggs. Yeah. The episode ends with Yuu asking Ayumu to give her another helping of rice.
My opinion on the episode? Better than the first. If each episode improves over the previous one this much then we're in for a treat this season. This is definitely the highlight at the moment. The comedic timing is even sharper than the first one and adding another character to play off is interesting. Hopefully the two main lines she says in this episode, which amount to insulting Ayumu and blaming any weird things she knows or does on being a vampire or ninja, will taper off a little bit eventually since if it persists it'll become annoying. It isn't yet, but I can foresee it being after a few more episodes of it.
I like that you get to see a more emotional Yuu at this point and you finally get to see that she does treasure Ayumu to at least some extent here, which I like. I know that as a zombie he's just set up from the start to be the series punching bag on every level, but it's still nice to see that when it comes down to it at least Yuu is on his side. Def looking forward to episode 3!
